About Us

Our business

World leading provider of expert services

Who we are

Haberman Ilett provides accounting and financial expert witness and related services in UK and international litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution.  We provide expert evidence in matters arising from commercial and contractual claims, shareholder disputes, investment treaty claims, competition and anti-trust cases, and those arising out of corporate transactions.  We also act as the expert determiner, or for the buyer or seller, in completion accounts disputes.

What makes us different

We distinguish ourselves from our competitors by offering a truly independent service.  Where large firms are constrained by their wider commercial relationships, we are a dedicated forensic firm that combines the knowledge and experience gained by our team in the Big Four and other firms with the agility and focus that comes with being a specialist practice.  If there is an accounting, valuation or financial aspect to your dispute, please contact any of our partners.

Our history

The firm is made up of over 30 professionals working on cases where the damages claimed range from USD 10 million to more than USD 10 billion.  So far in our short history, members of the Haberman Ilett team have given evidence in the witness box over 40 times and we have been involved in more than 100 cases.  Our founding partners, Philip Haberman and Frank Ilett, are two of the best-known expert witnesses in the world.  Between them they gained more than 30 years’ partner experience before launching Haberman Ilett LLP in September 2013.

Training for lawyers

Interactive Seminars

Since its inception, Haberman Ilett has been providing tailored formal and informal training seminars to barristers, law firms and other members of the legal community.  These interactive seminars help lawyers develop their understanding of both financial matters and other quantum considerations relevant to disputes.  They are delivered at a time and place of their recipients’ choosing, either in-person or virtually.

If your team of litigation or arbitration lawyers or barristers would like to find out more about our training sessions, please contact any of our team.

Tailored to Requirements

Previous seminars have covered a broad range of topics, but can be tailored as required:

  • Demystifying accounts – an opportunity to turn the pages of a real set of accounts and understand how to extract the most relevant information.
  • Cross-examination  based on a case study, an opportunity to practice cross-examination on members of our team and experience the potential realities of a hearing.
  • Valuation basics  understand the principles on which experts base their valuations, cover topics such as what is meant by value.
  • Working with an expert – an interactive session exploring topics such as why and when to instruct an expert, choosing the right expert and how to collaborate effectively.
  • Group consolidation – explore the concepts and basic mechanisms of consolidation, as well as reviewing examples of consolidated financial statements.

Corporate social responsibility

Making a difference

Haberman Ilett’s CSR programme was set up to provide an opportunity for both the firm and our staff to give back to the causes we care about.  Every decision made, be it a one-off charity day or ongoing CSR partnership, represents the interests of everyone in the firm and this, we believe, has in no small part contributed to its success.

Each year the CSR committee chooses charity from those nominated by members of our firm.  For 2020 we have chosen Maggie’s– a charity dedicated to providing emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends.

Our community charities

Throughout the year we support several other charities through sponsorship, events and in-house initiatives:

  • Sponsorship of the Commercial Litigators Forum, an organisation established with the aim of connecting professionals in the litigation and legal services sector, which raises funds for The National Pro Bono Centre dedicated to the provision of pro bono legal services and access to justice.
  • The biennial International Arbitration Charity Ball that raises funds for Save the Children UK.
  • In support of International Women’s Day, we host a company-wide donation drive for Dress for Success Worldwide  – an international charity that provides support, professional attire and development tools to empower women to achieve economic independence and thrive in the workplace.

Women's Network

Inspiring and encouraging women working at all levels

Our Events

Since our inception, the Haberman Ilett Women’s Network has played an important role in inspiring us and the female litigators and arbitrators in our community.

The Women’s Network was founded by one of our partners, Liz Perks, who has since been joined by two other female partners, Vikki Wall in October 2016 and Debbie Revill in April 2018.  The network aims to inspire and encourage women working at all levels within litigation and arbitration to reach their career goals without jeopardising their personal priorities.  The network provides opportunities for like-minded professional women to connect and share their experiences in a relaxed environment.

We host various events throughout the year which are open to female litigators and arbitrators of all levels.  If you would like to become a member of our network, or are interested in attending our next event, please email events@hiforensic.com.
